Ideas for using social media, blogging for success
By Relationship Manager Michele Cope

By now you’ve probably attended at least five social media “how to” classes, seminars and talks. Maybe you’ve even dabbled in it a little. Facebook, Linked In, Twitter, ActiveRain, blogsites and the list goes on and on and on.

Personally, I’ve heard 15 or more different professionals in the industry talk on social media. I’m dabbling in it and have received business from it. The one area that I find fascinating is “blogging.” In talking with multiple real estate agents, the concern I hear over and over is what to write about. I’ve been thinking a lot about this and thought I would share with you some ideas to help you get your fingers typing.

First things first, keep it simple to start. Write about topics you’re currently involved in. If your focus is on short sales, make your blog the “Short Sale Guru Information” page. Are you farming a neighborhood? Let your neighborhood shine by writing about all the great things about that neighborhood and surrounding areas.
Get your local businesses in the area to participate. Maybe you love to frequent some of the restaurants in the area. The next time you’re there, ask to interview the chef, the owner and some of their frequent patrons. Let them know you’re their local real estate professional blogging about the area. Why do this? One, it gets you noticed. Two, you’re giving back to the community.

If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, try getting more personal. What are your hobbies? Are you into fly fishing, hiking, golfing, knitting? Take your blogging to the next level and make it fun. People love to find others who have the same interests. How do you incorporate real estate into fly fishing (or any other personal interest)?

Check out this blog for some fun ideas: http://theflyfishingbroker.com.

• Gardening and landscaping

• Staging ideas

• Real estate news – use your own unique commentary

• Foreclosures in your area

• Short sale – How does it affect your credit?

• Moving with children

• Golf communities

• Final walk through

• Property flipping

Make it simple, make it quick!

Happy blogging.
