Make a difference with a positive attitude
By Barb Cline, AAR President
Your attitude toward life is important! I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you choose to react to what happens.
One of the biggest decisions you can make on a daily basis is your choice of attitude – it is more important than your past, your education, your successes, your failures, your income or your position. Your attitude can cripple your progress and the progress of those you come into contact with or it can keep you going. Your attitude can either fuel your progress or squelch all motivation.
Foster the positive
Your attitude toward tasks is a much greater determiner of how well you perform than is your ability. Think about your own past experiences, the times you really wanted to accomplish something. Was it cooking a dinner for a good friend, taking that dance class, starting an exercise program? Whatever the case, you really cared and put all your effort into it. Now think about a time when you faced a project you did not want to do. Likely, that hurdle was harder to clear, taking longer because of your disinterested attitude.
Mary Engelbreit says it best in one of my favorite quotations: “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.”
So I urge you to keep with that advice and avoid making negative comments about our current real estate market. Keep your ideas and comments positive. This will help you foster a positive attitude. Others will want to be around you and will want to work with you. You will increase your own business with a positive attitude.
You can achieve and be successful. Be your own best friend, believe in yourself and keep looking up. If you do this, you will make a difference in your life and in the lives of those around you.
For the health of it
Do you know people who can find something positive in a very genuine way in the midst of very challenging and discouraging situations? Some of us are fortunate to work with people whose strength is a positive attitude. I have observed that there are wonderful benefits for those who can live with a positive attitude.
Two of those benefits include physical health and peace of mind, both which reduce stress and worry. A person with a positive attitude is able to rest at night without waking up with the weight of the world pressing in upon them.
Stress and worry rob many people of happiness and productivity. If you are preoccupied with problems, you cannot focus on present reality and produce the desired results.
Take time everyday to review the positive aspects of your life, and be grateful for the good things you have. Acknowledge the challenges ahead, but do so with an open mind and your chin up – take on the world with the attitude that you can and will make a difference in your own life and the lives of those around you.
