Education can make a difference in our success
By Barb Cline, AAR President
Recently, while visiting with some of our peers, I entered a heated debate about the value of our continuing education requirement.
“I shouldn’t have to take classes just to keep my license,” I heard one of my colleagues state. Some were grumbling about having to attend C.E. courses, adamant in their belief that the information presented would not be used. However, others felt that any offer of knowledge was to be accepted and stored away for possible use at a later date.
Days later, I am still thinking about that conversation as I try to understand the disparity between our views. My attitude toward learning has not changed since that debate. I treasure every bit of knowledge I gain. And it doesn’t have to come from a C.E. class. I read as much about our industry and profession as I can, and I encourage you to do the same.
Educating you, your clients
Whether it is an article in the Aurora Outlook, the REALTOR® Magazine or in the Denver Post; whether I find my information on the web at www.ColoradoRealtor.com or www.REALTOR.org, I try to read it all. Do I miss some articles? Of course I do, but I give it my best effort. I believe that if we glean even one piece of information from an article, it just might be the key to closing a transaction. We never know when that piece of information is going to be relevant to the transaction and make the difference.
I firmly believe in educating our clients, too. After all, the decisions that have to be made are theirs to make – not ours. I encourage you to provide information so that your buyers and sellers can make educated decisions. This is how you make a difference in the lives of others.
Look no further
The Aurora Association of REALTORS® offers many opportunities for you to educate yourself.
From classes to REALTOR® Update meetings to Lunch and Learns; from this newspaper to the Association website to weekly Info Central e-mails, the opportunities are there. Are you taking full advantage of what is available?
I urge you to check the schedule of available classes and take them regardless of your need for continuing education credits. Strive to excel by educating yourself. And ask yourself this question:
Do you look forward to classes with anticipation or are you thinking only of the C.E. credits you need?
I hope you can sincerely answer that you simply want the knowledge!
