Ask not what your Board can do for you…
ask “What can I do for my Board?”

By Kim Enomoto

President Kennedy said it better than I ever could when he said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Many of us will never forget those words for what they meant when our president said them. We can use them today in everything we do in our personal and business lives; we realize as business and community leaders that when we put ourselves out to help others, we receive many times the value in return.

I’m confident that my real estate career has been enhanced by my experience with the Aurora Association of Realtors®. This organization has done everything to welcome me in, push me to higher aspirations, and give me the support I need to get there.

Personal, professional gains

I ask, as your colleague, that you get involved and enjoy the same benefits that I and many others before me have reaped. The networking and camaraderie you receive while joining a committee or becoming a director of the board pays dividends in the long run. I have worked with no one at this Association who has said to me, “Kim, because I’m on a committee I don’t have time to do all my real estate business.” When you get involved, just like any other opportunity, you gain personally and professionally.

The Aurora Association of Realtors® puts on a lot of very successful events every year. Who does not want to say they were a part of something very successful? The Association has many extremely talented members, both Realtors® and Affiliates, and we can use your help.

The common goal

As children, we grow up saying “by myself”…that true “flair” of independence. As adults, we realize it is much easier, more fun and generally more satisfying to work with others toward a common goal.

Sometimes getting involved means as little as asking a fellow member to join fellow members for the Friday morning Realtor® Update meeting. Who doesn’t want to be asked to join someone they respect? You would be applauded for this effort in helping your fellow Realtor® become successful.

Make the commitment

My hope in the year ahead is that if you get a call from me, Chief Executive Officer Carol Reed, or another member of the Association, that you take the opportunity to make a commitment to enhancing your career, enjoying the company of other members and making connections that will propel your career to the next level. Better yet - don’t wait for a call, but instead let me or someone at AAR know you have an interest. The Association’s directors and staff will be thrilled to incorporate your talents and let you shine!
