Foreclosures up 32 percent in first quarter
Lately you can’t pick up a paper without seeing a bold headline concerning the bleak foreclosure status of our Denver Metro area. Something that makes the average person feel like owning the American Dream may not be a good model for some.
The Rocky Mountain News has recently reported that Colorado now leads the country in number of housing foreclosures. You may be asking yourself, “How did this happen?”
According to The News, there are many reasons involved for this unfortunate national ranking. Two significant factors are lack of affordable housing options and the high number of homeowners who have overextended themselves to realize the dream of home ownership. The overextension has led to financial ruin.
I believe that as REALTORS®, we have an obligation to counsel our clients not only with the benefits of home ownership, but the liabilities and responsibilities also involved with owning a home. We must take a stand and assist in any way that we can to eliminate this unfavorable national ranking.
I would like to challenge each one of you to send out at least two marketing pieces a year geared toward the topic of foreclosure; by doing so, we can educate our past and future clients and provide them with a true “item of value.”
