Being a director of the Aurora Association of REALTORS® gives me the chance to see many different community organizations and their needs.
One of these organizations is the Metro Denver REALTOR® Foundation (MDRF), and if you are a member of the Aurora Association of REALTORS®, then you are a part of MDRF, too.
You might know MDRF from seeing the Buck-a-Deal box in the AAR lobby or at your own office...but that’s not all MDRF does! The Tree of Life in AAR’s front entry is also a large part of MDRF. Both programs help raise money for MDRF’s ultimate goal.
Helping the community
Members Desiree Banka, Linda Savage and I all work with this organization as appointed trustees on behalf of AAR. The mission of MDRF is to improve our communities through housing, education and neighborhood improvements.
To date, the Foundation has given over $500,000 to many worthy recipients, including the Colfax Network, Interfaith Task Force, Gateway Battered Women’s Shelter, Family HomeStead & Stride and more.
Getting the word out
I know, I know…you all wonder what MDRF really is doing. Well, part of the challenge the directors have this year is to increase REALTOR® and public awareness. You will see a targeted campaign with articles in newsletters, a new website, other electronic media promotion, etc... so hopefully MDRF is much more visible and so are their benefactors.
So...to start the campaign, here’s the information on two MDRF events coming up. You can be a part of both and contribute at the same time!
Golf Classic at Castle Pines
The MDRF 7th Annual Golf Classic at Castle Pines North Golf Course takes place June 21. The $165 per player fee includes breakfast, golf, cart, greens fees and awards luncheon...and the best part? The tax deduction! This year, $60 of your entry fee is tax deductible. This is Castle Pines North’s largest golf tournament every year, and they treat players like royalty.
This tournament benefits Family HomeStead, which provides emergency and transitional housing and support exclusively to homeless families with children.
Monte Carlo style in Cherry Hills
Another new and very exciting event is the Monte Carlo evening to benefit Stride. This will be an evening of Monte Carlo style gambling, food, live music and a silent auction, all to take place in a private residence in Cherry Hills Village. At only $30 per attendee, helping MDRF is affordable and exciting, and could be a great closing gift or opportunity to entertain clients, family or friends.
Proceeds from the event will go to Stride, which helps low-income individuals and families to become economically self-sufficient and independent of government and community-sponsored assistance.
Empowering by giving
All these activities empower people who may not have a home or the many opportunities that we may take for granted every day. Just think...if given a chance, they may become future clients! So when you give to MDRF, you really do receive – in the present, satisfaction from the knowledge that you are doing your share to help the community, and in the future, possibly a boost to your very own business.
So come and enjoy, knowing that you are giving your time or money to a very worthy organization!
More information about these events can be found at MDRF’s website, www.mdrfoundation.org.
