Put your strengths to work at AAR
By Cheri Long
A successful association needs people from all age groups, ethnicities, religions and educational backgrounds. Diversity in each of these categories is one of the keys to a strong organization; your contribution to the mix is extremely important.
What is your passion, your strength, your desire? And is that something from which we all could learn and benefit? My passion has always been giving back to the community that has been so supportive of the REALTOR® community. I remember the days of cleaning roadways, painting houses and collecting school supplies for needy school children.
There is no better feeling than giving back to Aurora or to our Association. Yes, it’s volunteer time, but it is time well-spent. A lot of my volunteer time over the past six years has been as a trustee for the Metro Denver REALTOR® Foundation (MDRF), which supports affordable housing issues across the state. My work with MDRF allowed me endless networking opportunities throughout the metro area, not just with Aurora members. I now go to meetings, conventions and inaugurals where I know so many people from around the metro area – and they know me, a fact that I believe could be an advantage if I am ever in a competing offer with a buyer. More important than that, however, is the feeling that I have made a difference, and have been involved in something bigger than myself.
So think about what kind of difference you’d like to make, and join AAR this year in committee or task force work of your choice. I am so excited to get to know you, listen to you, speak with you and have you be a part of our Association. Tell me whether you are interested in addressing grievance and ethics issues; fundraising for CARHOF, the PSF, or MDRF; advancing membership networking; or planning social events. Whatever your passion, we probably have an outlet for it and definitely need you to be involved!
Please e-mail me with your commitment at Cheri@CheriLong.com. Here are your committee/task force leaders so far for the year. A HUGE thank you to each person who is so willing to help others:
