Create your own success with positive attitude, altered perceptions
By Cheri Long
There are two ways of meeting difficulties: you alter the difficulties, or you alter yourself to meet them.
~Author Phyllis Bottome
The media has blasted us with the horrors of our industry. You can’t open a paper and NOT read about the high foreclosure rate, the sluggish economy or the high inventory of homes currently on the market. Recent revelations of the new home market giving away thousands of dollars to close out their inventories before the end of year was the latest negative story to come to light.
Are you as tired of this negative attitude as I am? Are you ready to tell the real story? Let’s all try to get the word out and maybe the media will pick up on our positive attitude instead. Let’s alter everyone’s perception.
Do a 180
Every time you read or hear someone speak negatively about our industry, turn it around and come back with the incredible opportunity it provides buyers right now. The interest rates are low, inventory is high and in a buyer’s market, those shopping for new homes have the best opportunities to make great investments. If not now, when will they be able to get such a great deal?
Our message needs to heard, loud and clear, “IT IS A BUYER’S MARKET – NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY.”
When a seller stresses out about the loss of their bottom line to pay concessions, I encourage them to think about it as a small price to pay to have a great opportunity on their replacement home. And if you look at the big picture, where would buyers rather put their money? I’m guessing it isn’t in the old property, but where their new 30-year loan will be!
If we can’t control the negative publicity, let’s control our attitudes and create our own successes.
Industry updates Regional MLS: A taskforce is being formed and a facilitator sought to determine the feasibility of a regional system.
Consolidation of metro-area Associations: Your Aurora Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors voted to allocate funds toward the cost of hiring a company to investigate the feasibility of one board/association for all REALTORS® across the metro area. This should get underway quickly. Our staff will be gathering the data requested and provide our disclosures as needed.
Voluntary electronic lockboxes: The expected distribution will begin in February 2007. The staff will be working on a distribution plan and training schedules; we will keep you updated as we know more. Keep up to date by checking AAR’s website at www.AuroraRealtors.org and see p. 7 of this issue for more information. |
