Let’s talk about you...how was your year?
By Cheri Long
Has it really been a year since my presidential term began? You know what that means, don’t you? You’re right; it means this is my last presidential article. That flew by quickly. But rather than talk about me, let’s talk about you.
What did you like best about this year?
Did you reach out and help someone? Were you able to donate some time toward a worthy project, a school or an event that made you feel good about what you did? Maybe you donated a “Buck-a-Deal” to the Metro Denver REALTOR® Foundation (MDRF) or put some time or financial resources toward the Colorado Association of REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Foundation (CARHOF). Maybe you found a needy group to help in your community.
Did you leave your comfort zone and reach out for something different?
Were you able to join a committee, attend some educational classes or play at some of the planned events at the Aurora Association of REALTORS®? Did you attend the State Convention or REALTOR® Rally or did I see you in New Orleans at the National Convention?
Did you take time to improve yourself and your business?
Did you take up a new hobby or plan play time during your week? Sometimes we get so caught up in what is (or is not) happening in our own business that we have a hard time enjoying down time. When you were with your family, were you really with them or thinking about how you should be looking for business?
Were you able to find the floor plans of the homes in your farm area and get those scanned so you’ll have them when you’re too busy to get them? Maybe you found “The Secret” in the library and read the book, or listened to the audio tapes or the DVD. How many times did you stop in and pick up a necessary item from the AAR REALTOR® Store? Or stop in and chat with staff members who are always so helpful and friendly? (Hey, if you didn’t know AAR’s lobby and front office areas were remodeled, you’ve been away too long!)
How is your moral compass lately?
Have you been tested with all the temptations? I think you can always tell how the economy is by what you are willing to do during down times just to get something done. Hopefully you were able to maintain your standards and look in the mirror every night. Were you brave enough to file a complaint against those agents who really stepped over the line? Did you send in your REALTOR® of the Year, Affiliate of the Year and Good Neighbor award nominations?
So what can AAR’s leadership team do to meet your needs?
Did you attend AAR’s numerous educational opportunities, many of them free of charge? How many REALTOR® Update meetings did you attend? Did you network at the many social opportunities scheduled by your Association throughout the year? Did you use your membership to its fullest extent?
Would you pay to have a link on the Association website that connects right to your website? How did you like voting online? Would you like to get your newsletters online and save the printing and mailing costs? Did you use the free CAR Technology Hotline? (It was awesome when I called in, thanks for asking!) And now that CAR has a dedicated attorney manning the free Legal Hotline, it is a great tool for your use.
Your membership is important
I hope you don’t mind, but I talked about you at AAR’s August Board of Directors meeting. In fact, we talk about you at every meeting. You are an important member, always on our minds. So let me ask you again...how were you able to use the Aurora Association of REALTORS® to better your year?
Your membership at our Association is important, and full of valuable opportunities. As I leave office and a new president and team of leaders takes over, please let us know how we can help you better your business and your career. |
