messages from the Association President
Inaugural the kickoff to an exciting year ahead.
by Debbie Green
Thank you to all the members and affiliates who attended and contributed to a very successful and fun Inaugural Celebration. We had a blast!
The opening ceremony included the Color Guard from the Civil Air Patrol bringing in the Association's beautiful new flags which were a gift of the Affiliate Committee. It was a very moving presentation. The Honorable Lynn Myers, Arapahoe County Commissioner, followed the colors with a lovely and moving invocation. Our very own Bob Brown, the incoming state president for CAR, conducted the installation ceremony of Aurora AAR and CAR officers.
Also at the Inaugural, the Association gave its first ever Good Neighbor Award to Bev Meade of Meade and Company. Meade has been a strong and avid neighborhood advocate, giving her time and talent to make Aurora a better place to live. Representatives from all the other metro area associations joined in the celebration. It was an upbeat, jazzy and very cool event. The live band, Linda Lee and Coole Company, deserves a very special thank you for adding a hip beat to the entire evening.
Outgoing president Don DiFiore got a standing ovation for an upcoming and very well-deserved honor. DiFiore will appear as one of only twelve REALTOR® members nationwide to receive the Hometown Hero Award. The prestigious honor is the result of his wonderful work in initiating the Colorado Cares Program. Many kudos to our outgoing leader!
The second time around...
Here we go again! It is my pleasure to serve the members of the Aurora Association of REALTORS® for a second time. This year promises to be interesting and I hope productive.
Working with the City
We may face many new challenges in our businesses and in the political arena. We will have many new faces in our city government, including a new mayor. We want ensure that the new city council is aware of our issues and share with them our willingness to work with them to continue an open dialogue with respect to our concerns about private property rights and homeownership issues. It is extremely important for our members to continue to support PSF and our other PACs to keep our issues in front of our representatives. Most of us fail to realize on a day to day basis, we are in the forefront of protecting private property rights.
Keeping you informed
At our annual retreat, your directors made a commitment to become experts or obtain expert knowledge to keep the membership informed in the areas of business practices that affect you. They are committed to being responsible for tracking the market and statistical and operational trends. Some of the areas the Directors will cover are: regulations, new home sales, legislation, technology, real estate trends, fundraising, and member/affiliates wants and needs (we will need your input). We will report to you on these areas through the Aurora Outlook and the Information Central. We want to keep you informed about trends.
New NAR lockbox agreement
Many of you are now aware that NAR has taken a majority ownership position with a newly formed lockbox company called Sentrilock. In the Real Estate Executive Summary, it is noted that NAR explained that they based their decision on entering the lockbox market on the need to bring about competition in the lockbox marketplace. You will hear more about the new lockbox in the coming months. We have a CD at the board office for your review with information about the new lockbox.
We will face exciting and pivotal issues this coming year. I look forward to representing you.
