Let's take time to appreciate!
by Debbie Green
This spring has been increasingly busy.
Meetings, programs and events have us all on the run. And business seems to be picking up quite a bit, too. I hope everyone's business has increased over the last 30 days and will continue to do so in the months to come.
Everyone has their own business in mind. But in addition to these personal business concerns, you should also consider those that we as an industry are going to have to address in the very near future.
State of the City
Certainly, the state of Aurora pertains to all of us in the real estate industry here. A recent presentation at an AAR Board of Directors meeting featured the demographics of Aurora, the MLS statistics for the past five years and the economic forecast for our city. The information was impressive and well-received…so much so that portions of the report are featured on page one of this issue. I am also asking the directors who wrote the report to share this information with the members at a Friday morning REALTOR® Update Meeting in the near future. Their reports may help you plan your business for the next few years to come, so look for this presentation on the REALTOR® Update schedule soon.
Our tack on the Fastrack
Also at issue in the near future is Fastracks, RTD's plan for transit in our city and the entire metro area. CAR Governmental Affairs Director Susan Aldretti and Jefferson County Board of REALTORS® President Jim Leto made a presentation to the AAR Board of Directors concerning the building of a coalition for the Fastracks Alliance. As an Association, we will have to make a decision on where we stand on this issue and how much support we would like to give to it. I think it is vital that we have a great mass transit system in place for the future growth of our city. Aurora is poised to become the place to be.
Positive political support
We all also must consider supporting the Political Survival Fund (PSF), the method by which REALTOR® interests are heard at local, state and federal governmental levels. AAR's annual PSF Gala and Silent Auction, held last month, was well-attended. The event, which raises money for PSF/RSDC, featured wonderful food, drink and auction items.
Eric Neel, Re/Max Alliance, and his volunteer committee did an outstanding job organizing this event, which raised $9,300 toward AAR's goal of $21,000 for PSF this year. Thanks to everyone who attended and to all who donated the many wonderful auction items
(see the complete story). Once again, AAR's supportive affiliates were the backbone on which the evening was built. Thank you.
Sometimes I think we all have a tendency to be so busy that we forget to stop and see all the wonderful things around us, including the people, places and things we take for granted as always being there. Take time this month to notice and express your appreciation. I do appreciate you all!!
