Outgoing AAR president honors members, staff with Distinguished Service Awards at September Inaugural!
AAR President Mitch Myers closed out his year by honoring committee volunteers, leadership, staff and other contributors at the 49th annual Inaugural Celebration late last month.
The Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor an AAR President can give; it’s the chance to honor those he believes have shown exemplary dedication to the Association, its members and its causes. Myers presented four of the prestigious awards to honor AAR members and staff for their extraordinary service to the Association during his term.

Mitch Myers (far left) ended his presidential year by giving Presidnet’s Distinguished Service Awards to those who he said showed exemplary commitment to AAR and the real estate industry. His award winners were the (left to right) the AAR staff including Karen Becker, Cheryl Vavra and Hilda Harrod; CEO Carol Reed; Affiliate Chairman Tom Gross; and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman John Stanton
John Stanton
Myers honored John Stanton, Prudential Colorado Real Estate, for his dedication and deep interest in the legislative arena. Stanton has shown concern for how proposed legislation and decisions by elected individuals may affect the members and the clients they serve. He served this year as AAR’s Governmental Affairs Chairman, faithfully attending Friday morning REALTOR® Update Meetings to keep members informed about potential legislation at the state and federal levels and issues at the local level. Stanton’s committee studied ballot issues and made critical recommendations to the board of directors.
Stanton also represented AAR on the Colorado Association of REALTORS® (CAR) State Legislative Committee. During the legislative session, he attended meetings every Friday at CAR to study and make recommendations on the hundreds of bills presented by state legislators.
Tom Gross
Myers honored AAR’s Affiliate Chair and Speaker Committee Chair Tom Gross for his devotion in representing the interests of AAR’s Affiliate members and for masterminding the selection of speakers and topics for the weekly REALTOR® Update meetings. Gross and his dedicated committee selected and organized more than 45 speakers during the past year, ensuring that members had access to information on legal, regulatory, industry and political issues and education concerning sales, marketing, technology and other related industry information. Gross was named Affiliate of the Year at last year’s Inaugural; according to Myers, he continues to show his extraordinary dedication and devotion to the Association on behalf of the membership.
Carol Reed
Myers gave a Distinguished Service Award to Chief Executive Officer Carol Reed her long time dedication to the Association, for her passionate interest in serving the membership and for her unfailing support to the directors, staff and Association members. Reed has been employed by AAR since 1981, and has been awarded eight Presidential Distinguished Service Awards for her devotion to the Association.
Before becoming CEO, Reed was AAR’s Education Director. She spearheaded numerous innovative educational series and dedicated her efforts to creating one of the top educational programs of any Association in the state. Reed took over as CEO in 199?, and has since been a strong advocate for AAR members.
AAR Staff
Myers honored the Association staff with a Distinguished Service Award in recognition of their contributions and the efficient, faithful and valuable service they provide to the Association and its members. “Until you are president, you never realize how dedicated our staff is to provide programs, products and services to enhance our skills, abilities and knowledge,” Myers said. “They are devoted to the membership, our profession, and to providing quality customer service on a daily basis.”
Those honored were Education/Member Services Director Karen Becker; Administrative Assistant Hilda Harrod; Membership Administrator Cheryl Vavra; Bookkeeper Vonda Sieber; Communications Director Raquel Isenhart, and Building Maintenance Administrator Mike Kuhl.
