Candidates for AAR Board of Directors

David DeElena
Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage
Obtained real estate license November 2000; joined AAR November 2000.

David DeElena says he wants to promote the interest of AAR's members to the public at large. "It seems at times that the general public has a low opinion of an industry that has high standards of conduct and operation," he said. DeElena would also like to encourage the Association's members to become more involved in industry issues. Before entering real estate, he oversaw day to day operations for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., which he says required strong communication, adaptability, and time management skills, along with fiscal and physical accountability. He trains Coldwell Banker agents on HUD and related issues; is a CARHOF co-chair and a Governmental Affairs committee member. DeElena holds his ABR and CRS designations.

Goals: "To have input into the membership issues, committees and concerns. A positive outlook and a passion for real estate is an effective method to get more members involved in board issues and activities. I hope to work with the ethics committee to ensure consistent improvement in how the public perceives the real estate community."

Regina "Regie" Hunt
Hunt Homes/Metro Brokers
Obtained real estate license August 1990; joined AAR October 1990

Regie Hunt says she wants to be on the Board of Directors because she hopes to offer new insights and new energy, and to give back to brokers who have shared time and experience with her. "Our organization gives us a large number of resources," she said. "At some point, as experienced brokers, we must give something back." Hunt has served the Association on the Education and Golf committees and on the advisory committee to the City of Aurora. She was the managing broker of ERA Ken Rice Realty in Bennett from 1993-1995, and has been broker owner of Hunt Homes since 1999. Hunt was president of the Adams State College Choir and of the Bennett Education Foundation and has served on the YMCA Board of Directors.

Goals: "To create more activities for new brokers so that they will feel comfortable coming to the marketing sessions and other education opportunities. To work together with other brokers to bring new members into the Association."

Cheri A. Long
Metro Brokers - Priority Properties, Inc.
Obtained real estate license in 1993; joined AAR in 1993.

Cheri Long says she thinks she can contribute positively to the current board. "It is such an important decision to volunteer time and talent, one that each REALTOR® holds a responsibility to contribute." Long has served on many boards, including the Mothers of Twins Board and the Metro Denver REALTOR® Foundation, of which she is the current chair-elect. She says she understands Policy Governance (the system under which the Association is governed) and the structure and protocol of board work. At AAR, Long has chaired the Community Pride Committee, heading numerous projects to benefit the community, and was a member of the Grievance Committee. She is the employing broker of Priority Properties, has taught pre-licensing classes and holds ABR, GRI, and CRS designations and the e-PRO certification.

Goals: "Initially, I think my role would be "quick to listen," "slow to speak." In other words, learn how this board works, understand the mission and vision, contribute ideas appropriately, work to earn the trust of the current directors. Support for the staff of AAR as well as members is critical to the success of us all."

John J. Mitchell
Metro Brokers - Mitchell Realty Services
Obtained real estate license 1994, obtained appraiser's license 2001; joined AAR 1995

John Mitchell believes he can bring his leadership talents , education, management experience, and experience in the real estate, appraisal and mortgage industries to the Association to explore the future directions of sales and education. He has been on AAR's It's Your Move and Candidate Interview committees and is a current supporter of AAR events and focus groups. Mitchell has completed over 400 hours of continuing and qualifying education since getting his real estate license. He and two partners formed Blue Ribbon Mortgage, Inc., in 2001. Mitchell directed the character development program for a local boy scout troop; he is active in his church and was committee chair for development plan that culminated in the building of a $4.5 million sanctuary.

Goals: "I want to explore the challenges of AAR taking the lead in identifying senior real estate opportunities; obtaining the highest percentage of members with the CRS designation; (examining) online real estate sales and how it impacts traditional sales methodology, and educating REALTORS® on how to develop and use analysis tools in an unstable or uncertain real estate market."

Lisa Mooney
Re/Max Alliance
Obtained real estate license April 2000; joined AAR September 2000

Lisa Mooney wants to be an AAR Director because she is "sincerely passionate" about real estate. "I enjoy sharing ideas and helping to identify and resolve problem areas in our ever-changing industry," she said. Mooney says she possesses the ability to interpret detailed information and factual material, and continues to demonstrate strong communication skills to vast audiences by conducing one-on-one agent mentoring and teaching Colorado real estate contract classes for the Re/Max Alliance Sales Institute. Before joining the real estate industry, Mooney was in the commercial printing arena for 15 years as top-producing sales representative responsible for managing multi-million dollar accounts. She started her real estate career at Penbrooke Realty, then shortly moved to Re/Max Alliance.

Goals: "I would like to develop and implement a "Hot Topics" program. This program will help agents gain confidence in their communication skills and develop proper protocol when dealing with difficult and unique situations in our current market."

Ralph E. Papineau, Sr.
Keller Williams Realty - Southeast Office
Obtained real estate license November 1998; joined AAR January 1999

Papineau is a graduate of the Dale Carnegie sales course and of Labor Relations for Supervisors and Managers. As Director of Training at the Keller Williams Southeast office, he oversees the accountability coaches assigned to agents and "looks after" new agents. He trains in house and coordinates outside instructors to teach new agents, and chairs Career Development and Recruiting committees. He holds CRS and GRI designations.

Goals: "To carry out the duties and responsibilities of a director to help promote prosperity for each association member. Maybe this could be the first step to one day being president of this Association."

Tracie Seale
Realty Executives of Aurora
Obtained real estate license November 2000; joined AAR November 2000

Tracie Seale says she has spent the last few years developing her business and now feels ready to devote time to the Association and to give back to the AAR membership and community. Before entering real estate, Seale was an administrative assistant for five years for the City of Aurora Parks system. She was an administrative assistant for Great Lakes Aviation, where she handled airline passes, payroll, record keeping, monthly meetings and customer service. Seale was also an executive manager for Tupperware, heading a team of six to eight people. She currently co-owns a leads/referral group in which she manages leads, phone calls, recruitment and membership. Seale has also been a leader at Tollgate Elementary, acting as president of the PTA, organizing a resource library for parents, creating a newsletter, and more.

Goals: "To provide a support system for the membership. To provide support for presently established AAR goals and management philosophies while a t the same time reviewing and updating these goals and furthering relationships between AAR and City administration as well as Chamber of Commerce."

Felicia M. Stanton
Prudential Colorado Real Estate
Obtained real estate license May 1999; joined AAR June 1999

Felicia M. Stanton says that she strongly believes that the Aurora Association of REALTORS® is a very vital part of the business of real estate professionals, and that without its direction and dedication, the standards of the business would suffer. She has served on numerous AAR committees in the past six years, including education, golf, and the PSF task force. Stanton is an active member and ambassador of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, and has served as an officer in American Business Women's Association and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus. Goals: "As a Board of Directors (member), I hope to bring fresh and productive ideas to the membership while fine tuning the current activities and directions of the current association."

Candidates for CAR Board of Directors

Sandra L. Kauffman
Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage

Sandra Kauffman is a past AAR Board of Directors member, a three-year chair of the Political Survival Fund Committee, a two-year chair of the CARHOF committee, an active member on numerous AAR committees and supporter of AAR events. She has 12 years experience in the real estate industry. Kauffman says she believes that REALTORS® over the next five years will need to increase face-to-face, personal service to meet client needs as the Internet becomes more and more dominant in the real estate transaction. CAR can play a role in this area, she says, by helping to make websites more user-friendly, and by stressing the importance to the public of using a REALTOR® when buying or selling a home. She also wants CAR to market to the public the charities REALTORS® support and the community service work they do.
Seeking a CAR Director position: Kauffman says that as a CAR director, she wants to improve communication between CAR and the AAR membership, and to assist the state association in letting its membership know about issues prior to enacting them.

Mitch Myers
Metro Brokers - Myers Realty

Mitch Myers is the current president of the Aurora Association of REALTORS® and served two terms on the AAR Board of Directors. He has been a member of the Masters Club and has served on the Nominating and CARHOF committees and the Metro Denver REALTOR® Foundation. Myers believes that technology will play a major role in real estate in the next five years, but that the consumer will seek out the high-touch, high-tech agent who must be knowledgeable about numerous factors. CAR's role, he says, should be to keep the REALTOR® foremost in the public's mind, and continue to provide the tools and education to offer top-notch service. Myers says he would like to continue and improve the support between CAR and local associations.
Seeking a CAR Director position: "I feel that I am in a unique position in so much as the past 1 1/2 years as president and president-elect I have not only had the opportunity to learn the issues but have made contact with many of the leaders I would be working with on different issues." I am passionate about the business and want to make sure that it remains a viable and profitable business.

Caroline Nordyke
Look East Realty

Caroline Nordyke is a past president, board of directors member and corporate secretary of AAR. She chaired AAR's Equal Opportunity Committee; was the Women's Council of REALTORS® State President in 2000, its state governor in 2002, and its Region IV Regional Vice President in 2004. Nordyke has worked with CAR on the action group for Leadership Training and on the Leadership Institute Committee; she also helped plan state conventions from 2002 - 2005. Nationally, she was on WCR's nominating and finance and budget committees. Outside the real estate industry, she worked on the I-70 Corridor committee, acting as president in 2000-2001. Nordyke says she believes that the next five years will bring a continuation of the fight to keep banks out of real estate, and that the question of smart growth will raise many issues. She wants to see CAR continue to support the National Association and to keep its members informed, and believes legislative issues and education should remain top priority.
Seeking a CAR Director position: "I believe that AAR and CAR need to work together as a team, with representation from AAR able to voice the desires of the members. I feel that I can represent AAR in matters that may arise.

Linda Philpott
Westwind Realty

Linda Philpott is a past president, corporate secretary, and director of AAR; a past CAR director; a past trustee for the Metro Denver REALTOR® Foundation, and chair and member of numerous AAR committees. At CAR, Philpott was a two-term vice president of CAR's Governmental Affairs Division, chaired the State Issues Committee and the Political Affairs Forum, and has served on numerous committees. Philpott says the next five years will bring a continued merging of companies to the real estate industry; increased use of technology; higher costs for agents, and more knowledgeable buyers and sellers. She believes CAR should be doing things the local associations cannot in terms of money and personnel, and should be the connection with the National Association for information and ideas. She wants to share with AAR members more of what happens at CAR meetings, and would like to help people understand more of what happens at the state level so they can think outside local boundaries.
Seeking a CAR Director position: "To be able to continue to use the vast amount of experience and knowledge I've gained over the years at AAR and CAR to benefit our members and increase professionalism within our industry and a positive perception by the public."
