AAR honors Lyn Johnson with Good Neighbor Award at Inaugural

Lyn Johnson is congratulated by Don DiFiore, who presented her with the Good Neighbor Award at the AAR Inaugural Celebration Sept. 6.

In the past year alone, Lyn Johnson, Homestead Properties, has organized an ecological cleanup project that was recognized in our nation’s capitol, hosted a family fair, provided gifts for Meals on Wheels recipients, organized a fair to focus on emergency preparedness, and helped train a committee to help children and families in times of disaster.

For her extraordinary involvement in her community, the Aurora Association of REALTORS® gave Johnson its Good Neighbor Award at the Inaugural Celebration.

Colorado Cares Day-July, 29, 2006
Johnson traveled to Washington, D.C. to accept the National Take Pride in America Award for her role in organizing Colorado Cares Day, which brought together 1,200 volunteers to clean up and construct facilities around the Aurora Reservoir. The group built two miles of fencing, planted wetlands, built scuba platforms and raptor perches, and removed noxious weeds.

Through this project, volunteers completed work that could have taken the City of Aurora a minimum of six years to complete and saved undeterminable amounts of money. Johnson donated over 200 hours of her time to the project.

Seven Hills Community Family Fair-September 9, 2006
Johnson also helped organize the “Family Fair,” hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Seven Hills community. About 4,500 people attended this fourth-annual event focusing on family unity.

Meals on Wheels-November-December, 2006
For the sixth year in a row, Johnson oversaw a project that, partnered with Volunteers of America, helped collect donated gifts for homebound recipients of the Meals on Wheels program. Her program ensured that more than 1,200 people who would not have otherwise received a gift at holiday time had one wrapped and delivered especially for them.

Emergency Preparedness Fair-May 14, 2007
Johnson, working through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, partnered with the Arapahoe and Denver Offices of Emergency Management, Colorado Red Cross, the City of Aurora, Tri-County Health and local fire and police departments to host a community Emergency Preparedness Fair designed to teach members of the community how to be prepared for times of personal disaster, terrorist disaster and/or natural disaster.

Children’s Mental Health Faith Based Initiative Committee
Johnson was personally contacted by elected official Debbie Stafford to help organize a committee of people that are trained to help children and families in times of disaster. This committee helps children mentally deal with disaster and the stress that can come from that. Her current role is as a consultant to build a productive committee.
