Association ends 2007 by donating resources to Ronald McDonald House
Each year at holiday time, members of the Aurora Association of REALTORS® offer their time and resources to a deserving community cause. A slower market and less stable economy didn’t diminish their generosity at the end of 2007 as they donated a variety of items to Denver’s Ronald McDonald House.
The facility gave AAR its wish list, and REALTOR® and affiliate members came through, offering new sheets, pillow cases, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and other essentials, as well as toys and monetary gifts. Ronald McDonald House representative Kendra Ingles joined AAR members at the Association’s Annual Holiday Luncheon Dec. 7 to accept the contributions.
The Ronald McDonald House legacy began in 1974, when Philadelphia Eagle Fred Hill realized that although he could afford the best medical care and living facilities when his daughter had leukemia, other families he came to know could not.
Hill went to work, enlisting his team, the Philadelphia Memorial Children’s Hospital, and the McDonald Corporation, to build the first Ronald McDonald House. Denver’s House, the third in the nation, opened in 1979. Since then, more than 210 of the facilities have been built across the nation and the world.
Ronald McDonald Houses are a port in the storm for families of sick children. They offer not only a low-cost or free place to stay while the child is in the hospital, but also the support of other families in similar situations, kindness, compassion, understanding, and the relief of being able to focus on their child rather than the costs of living away from home.
The Association was pleased to offer its support to such a worthy organization and will continue to do its part to assist additional community groups in 2008.
