The Aurora Association of REALTORS® would like to thank each member who has contributed to the Political Survival Fund (PSF) this year. Any amount is appreciated as AAR strives to reach its $18,125 goal; right now, we're about halfway there.
PSF investments help support candidates and issues on all levels of government. The Political Survival Fund is nonpartisan, supporting above all else REALTOR® interests.
PSF locally
The Colorado Association of REALTORS® (CAR) had an active role on behalf of its members during the 2011 Colorado legislative session.
CAR helped pass legislation to allow a seller up to three transactions in any 12 month period before being required to be licensed as a mortgage loan originator.
CAR supported legislation that bans the enforcement of non-exempted private transfer fee covenants that benefit only third parties and not the property burdened by the covenant recorded after the effective date of the bill. The legislation also requires certain nonexempted covenants in place prior to the enactment of the legislation to record a notice of transfer fee with the respective county clerk.
Sometimes what doesn't pass as legislation is just as important as what passes.
CAR successfully contributed to the defeat of two pieces of legislation that would have allowed a public utility to finance the up-front costs of making one or more energy efficiency improvements to real property. REALTORS® opposed the absence of credit risk protection as well as home buyers being forced to assume the previous owner's energy efficiency improvement costs.
PSF nationally
The National Association of REALTORS® (CAR) worked on behalf of its members in Washington D.C.
NAR launched a "Call for Action" to preserve, protect, and defend the Mortgage Interest Deduction (MID), which is an effective tool facilitating home ownership.
NAR is urging Congress to extend the current mortgage loan limits for FHA and GSEs while opposing mandatory increases in mortgage down payments proposed by financial regulators through narrow definition of the Qualified Residential Mortgages (QRMs). In conjunction, NAR has launched a "Call for Action" to tell Congress to vote against the proposal of a 20 percent minimum down payment on all residential transactions; such a rule could put home ownership out of reach for middle-income Americans.
PSF in Aurora
This is the year for municipal elections. AAR's Candidate Interview Team is gearing up to interview mayoral and city council candidates. This group of people has a direct impact on your business and your clients' quality of life through zoning, sign codes, sales taxes, etc.
Do your fair share
If you have not contributed to PSF this year, please consider doing so. You do have a voice on all three levels of government (local, state and national). Great benefits are realized for your industry at a very little cost! Remember, if real estate is your profession, then politics is your business! |
